Graphic design for an independent narrative feature film.

Filmmaker Emilie Upczak and I go back a solid decade. For eight years we worked together at the trinidad+tobago film festival: I was the art director there, in charge of the festival’s visual identity, and she was the creative director, in charge of a whole lot more. We became dear friends, but we also developed a deep and mutual respect for each other’s work. When Emilie conceived her first feature-length film, Moving Parts, some five years ago, I knew from the outset that I would be graphic designer for the film. It’s always potentially tricky working with friends (especially on a such a hugely creative project like a film), but the collaboration with Emilie was fantastic. She is able to achieve that perfect balance of knowing what she wants, and letting go and allowing a designer to work that out without micromanaging. That balance often leads to a successful project; so far, the feedback on this one has been great.
