Pictures from Paradise (book)
A Survey of Contemporary Caribbean Photography
In 2010 Mariel Brown (Robert & Christopher co-editor) and I started engaging in conversations about building a collection of thematic books on contemporary Caribbean art. We had been discussing possible future titles for the imprint and, fortuitously, in September of that year we both attended the Shot in Kingston exhibition at Alice Yard in Trinidad. We walked away from that exhibition with the same idea: We should do a book on contemporary Caribbean photography!
Released in Trinidad and Tobago in April 2012, Pictures from Paradise seeks to examine the ways in which contemporary art photography has evolved within the English-speaking Caribbean, rising beyond idyllic scenes to tackle more intricate issues. Through Pictures we have the honour of being the first Caribbean publisher to have a title picked up for North American distribution by Distributed Art Publishers – the world’s top distributor of art books and exhibition catalogues published by leading museums and independent publishers, including MoMA, SFMoMA and the Guggenheim.
